The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially named its national headquarters after its founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings, in recognition of his contributions to the party and Ghana’s democratic development.
The decision, announced during a ceremony attended by party executives, government officials, and supporters, is intended to honor Rawlings’ legacy as the founder of the NDC and one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s political history.
The headquarters, located in Accra, will now be known as the Jerry John Rawlings House, serving as a lasting tribute to the late statesman who led Ghana as Head of State and later as a democratically elected President.
Speaking at the event, NDC leaders described Rawlings as a visionary whose commitment to social justice, accountability, and grassroots political participation laid the foundation for the party’s enduring influence in Ghanaian politics.
Party officials noted that the renaming symbolizes the NDC’s continued dedication to the principles and values championed by Rawlings throughout his public life. They also emphasized the need for current and future generations of party members to uphold the ideals of integrity, discipline, and service that he espoused.
Family members of the late former President, along with senior party figures and supporters, expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a fitting recognition of Rawlings’ role in shaping both the NDC and Ghana’s democratic journey.
Jerry John Rawlings, who passed away in November 2020, remains a towering figure in Ghanaian politics. His leadership and political legacy continue to influence national discourse and the direction of the NDC.
The naming of the party’s headquarters after Rawlings is expected to further strengthen efforts to preserve his legacy while inspiring party faithful to continue working toward the ideals for which he stood.
